Skill Development
India’s workforce is rapidly evolving into a skills-led economy, yet the gap between education and employability remains a strategic challenge. According to the India Skills Report 2026, national employability has risen to 56.35 % in 2026, reflecting consistent improvement from previous years and signaling progress toward job readiness across sectors. Notably, for the first time, female employability (54 %) surpassed male (51.5 %), highlighting growing gender parity in workforce readiness. India now accounts for an estimated 16 % of the global AI talent pool, projected to reach over 1.25 million specialists by 2027, and more than 90 % of employees are reported to use generative AI tools, indicating deeper digital skill integration in the workplace.
Despite these gains, a substantial portion of India’s talent still lacks structured skill enhancement. Recent labour market analysis shows that over 90 % of the workforce has received no formal skill exposure, with only a small fraction participating in certified training pathways, highlighting persistent gaps in industry-aligned skill development.
